Epoxy Flooring will work best when your substructure is made of hard and flat concrete. But in reconstruction projects, it is necessary to apply a coating on the existing floors. Now the question arises whether floor recovering with epoxy can be used on the types of flooring that have already been applied and are available or not?
In this article, Ultimate Epoxy Flooring deals with the possibility of floor recovering with epoxy on different surfaces and common and widely used flooring.

Rugged And Hard Concrete
Epoxy flooring is not recommended for this case for several reasons. This level is to absorb epoxy, and your project will fail.
In the end, you are faced with consuming a lot of resources without getting the desired result. On the other hand, because the uneven concrete surface has pores, the possibility of bubbles and porosity on the epoxy surface is very high.
Wood
Although epoxy adheres well to wood, it is not recommended to apply epoxy coating on wood. Wood is a flexible material that tends to deform (albeit slightly) due to environmental conditions and temperature changes. Epoxy cannot follow the expansion in wood, and cracks are created on the surface of the epoxy floor. Wood also contains moisture that may affect the final texture of the foot, and the epoxy surface may become porous and blistered, which is a significant weakness.
In this case, polyurethane coating with more flexibility (and is produced for wooden surfaces) can be a better solution.
Marble
Epoxy floor coating can be applied to marble. Just not that the marble surface must be granulated. The body of the marble is usually polished, and its seams are filled. Therefore, the mechanical adhesion between the epoxy coating is compromised. Make sure you smooth the surface properly and also use a primer to penetrate the marble.
Metal
Epoxy coating is not recommended on metal floor surfaces (except for small characters such as metal door utility holes).
Epoxy paints for metals have excellent adhesion to metal surfaces. Still, the bonding of epoxy flooring and metals is a little tricky, and a particular primer layer is needed to create adhesion. Standard epoxy flooring is not an optimal option for metal floor surfaces due to its lack of flexibility.
Ceramic Tile
Well, dealing with your old tiles during residential, commercial, or retail space renovation can be stressful and messy. Tiles have always been a popular and practical flooring choice. Today, more innovative flooring solutions are made available globally, and people are getting curious about it.
The first concern we must deal with is the adhesion of epoxy into the tile. It needs to stick to the tile for a fair and long-lasting result.
Take a moment to look down and identify the existing tiles you have on your floor. If the tiles you have feels rough and unglazed, then it only needs to be cleaned thoroughly with soap and water and let it dry. Removing the dirt and digging into those grout lines if needed cloud also is done. But if you have glazed tiles on your existing floor, then it would require additional preparation. Light sanding will remove the tiles’ gloss and have a rougher surface, making it easier for the epoxy to bond on the floor. Also, take note that the glossy finish can be because of a sealer applied to the tiles. It is usually used to prevent them from looking dirty. You would also need to grind these sealers off the tile for better results.
It is possible to apply epoxy flooring on ceramic tiles. But any sealer and polish on the tiles should be removed, and a strong primer should be used for adhesion between ceramic and epoxy. If you want the seams between the ceramic tiles to be removed and not visible after applying the epoxy, you must level the surface of the tile and ceramic joints with the appropriate materials (epoxy seam filler) and then the epoxy surface layer. Perform it.
Mosaic
The question that may arise for you is whether it is possible to install epoxy on the mosaic or not?
That you understand, epoxy flooring can be applied on almost any surface. Organic and oily additives are used to make the mosaic to achieve a flat and dense texture, which reduces the adhesion of the epoxy. Therefore, to install epoxy on mosaic, more detailed and complete surface preparation is required. The surface of the mosaic, tile, or ceramic is carefully sanded with a screwdriver or flooring machine so that the glazed layer and the surface of the mosaic are entirely removed, and the tile is reached.
Then the mosaic or tile joints should be filled thoroughly, and no seams remain.
Accurate sealing of tiles is also essential because if the seams are not appropriately filled, cracks may appear on the epoxy floor’s final surface.
Also, all tiles should be inspected for loose tiles and grain by grain repair and replacement. They are repairing loose tiles after epoxy flooring is challenging and sometimes costly. After preparing a unique primer surface formulated for use with tiles and mosaics to install epoxy on the mosaic, the applied surface and other coating are processed according to the usual standard. It is better to apply an epoxy coating on the cemented surface. However, if the surface has already been covered with tiles or mosaics, it is still possible to use a suitable epoxy coating by applying the correct substructure. Of course, sometimes, to install epoxy on a mosa3, highly mirrored and polished flooring techs also first cover the floor with unique tiles for mosaics that do not have a glazed layer to reach a perfectly smooth surface and then cover their epoxy. This method leads to perfect and fully mirrored flooring with uniform and deep reflection of light considered in the exhibition.

Benefits Of Using Epoxy Flooring In Sydney
Tips Before Applying The Flooring On Concrete
Although epoxy is easier to work with than other materials, epoxy should not be installed without consideration. If the building floor has just been concreted, the work should be postponed until the concrete surface dries. Epoxy application on a damp surface is not recommended. In the case of older buildings with concrete floors, make sure that the floor is not sticky.
Moisture and humidity can be caused by burst pipes or problems with the underfloor heating system. In all these cases, the damp’s cause must be determined first, and the floor of the building must be completely repaired.
Execution of concrete flooring does not require sanding the building floor. Polishing the concrete prevents proper epoxy backing to the floor. If the concrete has already been wholly polished and smoothed, a rotating trowel can be used to create the necessary scratches and lines to install the epoxy.

Execution Of Flooring On Facilities
Usually, applying epoxy to concrete poured with ordinary chemical compounds does not cause any problems. However, at ambient temperature and humidity, it takes about a month for the concrete to dry completely. Any concrete reinforcement can also cause some difficulties in the implementation of flooring on concrete. Sometimes, some installations are on the floor of the building, seen as plastic or wooden extensions from the concrete surface. Before the epoxy is applied to the building floor, it is necessary to smooth these surfaces accurately and adequately.
If you misapply epoxy flooring and apply pressure to hide the concrete’s angles, you will later encounter the problem of cracking or protrusion on the epoxy surface, which is not pleasant at all. In this case, more money will inevitably be spent on repairing the problem. Therefore, it is better to do the smoothing operation carefully in this case beforehand.
Apply Floor Paint On The Concrete Surface
It is recommended to apply epoxy in the last stage of reconstruction. If the ceiling and walls are to be painted, this must be done in advance. If the paint is sprayed on the concrete, the paint must be removed before the flooring operation. The concrete surface has a good porosity for flooring. Any color and similar materials can reduce the adhesion of epoxy to concrete.
In this way, before applying epoxy, the building floor is prepared with a sub sanding machine. After that, all dust should be thoroughly cleaned. In general, there should be no equipment or material between the epoxy liquid and the concrete. Even dust is necessary so that the liquid does not spread well on the surface. In this case, after the epoxy dries, there is a possibility that it will not be done anymore. Do not forget that applying epoxy costs a lot.
